We know that running a creative business or being a creative freelancer can present a tricky balance. On one side there’s the inspired thinking, the original ideas that push you forward, and the late nights of hard graft. On the other you’ll find the spreadsheets, the finances, and the complex world of clients and audiences. Balancing these two sides can be hard. So we’re here to help.
At Cultivator, we tap into Cornwall’s thriving creative community and draw on decades of industry know-how to tailor-make the support that will see your business soar.
People who’ve been through it too.
Our team is made up of business development experts with over 10 years in the field, and professional creatives at the top of their game. Which means you get experience, expertise, insight and recommendations that are relevant, from day one.
No one understands your business – and ambitions – like you do. So we need to get to know you better. When you contact us for the first time we’ll ask you a few questions to check we’re right for you, then set up a time to come and chat.
We’ll talk about anything you want, from the barriers and challenges you’re facing to the opportunities you want to explore. We’ll then start looking at how we can help, through the knowledge we have, connections we can utilise and the support we offer.
Whether it’s looking into exporting, offering specialist mentoring, growing your team or kickstarting collaborative projects, we’ve got your potential in our sights.
And it all starts with a conversation. Today.
If you’re a registered creative business – and that can include you being a freelance creative practitioner – and you’re based in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly, let us be your catalyst.

Too much work, not enough hands? It might be time to take on an intern. We’ll help you find the right pair of hands to see your business grow, hurdling barriers you encounter and keeping costs under control with part-funded wages.
Identify and bridge gaps. Tighten up your knowledge. Boost your motivation. The right mentor can really help you go places. Working with you we can identify, enlist and contribute up to £1000 towards the cost of a mentor.
Got an idea for a way to improve your business performance, but need help getting it off the ground? We offer a rolling programme of grants for up to 80% of eligible costs (maximum grants are £5,000), per business.
Starting out is exciting. But it’s not always easy. In partnership with Cornwall College, we’re looking for 24 graduate start-ups with the ideas, commitment and potential to go far. Together we’ll work with you to identify what you want to achieve, then support you to get there, from helping you find your first workspace to coaching and advice on how to grow, while still staying true to your creative spirit.
Do you ever wonder if you’re missing out on an overseas market? Or do you want to increase your audience at home, or abroad? Our ‘ready for export’ programmes are made with you in mind. Together with experienced international trade advisors we’ll help you pinpoint potential markets and get you export-ready, with the scope for financial support to explore what export opportunities are out there for you.
With a finger on the pulse of Cornwall’s creative community and a pocket full of specialist contacts, we’re experienced at creating workshops, sessions and training that add real value. Listening to all the creative businesses we’re working with, we’ll tap into what you’re telling us you need, to offer development sessions that sharpen your skills and business know how.
Work-ready students and ambitious businesses can be a powerful combination in the right hands. That’s why we’re working with Cornwall College, matching creative, talented, motivated students with the right businesses, so you can be more efficient and impactful, while their potential soars.
